Walking tour stop description: Originally established on Houston Street in 1987, the Knitting Factory moved to its space on Leonard Street seven years later, where it continued to play a vital role in the Downtown music scene. Like much of that scene, though, the Knitting Factory subsequently moved to North Brooklyn, in the summer of 2009.
