Walking tour stop description: Completed in 1811 on what was, at the time, a small artificial island, the South-west Battery was turned into an entertainment venue in 1824, when it became known as Castle Garden. Since then it has been designated a National Monument and restored, though it still hosts the occasional musical performance.
