Walking Tour title: Literary Greenwich Village

Walking tour description: Prof. Bayrd Still (1906-1992) was a professor of history at New York University for some forty years, and the founder of the NYU Archives. During his time he also gave many tours of the city to local and visiting scholars. Sometime in 1977, it seems, he gave a specialized walking tour for his colleague Prof. Anna Balakian's literature seminar, visiting significant locations in Greenwich Village's literary history. All that survives of this tour are a set of virtually illegible photocopies of cue cards amongst his documents in the NYU Archives. I have transcribed these to the best of my ability so that we might explore the sites of Greenwich Village's various literary scenes through the mind of one of its greatest historians.
