Description: From 2001-2007, Mayday was an all volunteer collectively-run anarchist bookstore and infoshop, run out of the Theater for the New City in the East Village. After the closing of Blackout Books in 2001, some of those involved with Blackout went on to start Mayday. Mayday began renting a portion of the Theater for the New City lobby (apprx. 300 square feet), and ran its operation from there. In 2007, Mayday and the Theater ended their agreement after a series of altercations between Mayday volunteers and Theater administration.
