Walking tour stop description: "In 1911 John Reed came upon graduation from Harvard and took an apartment at 42 Washington Square with several roommates (Law School block). After Lincoln Steffens's wife died, Steffens took a room in 42 Washington Square. Reed became war correspondent during World War I. Sent back dispatches to The Masses. On a trip home to Oregon in 1915, Reed met a young woman named Louise Bryant and took her to live with him at Washington Square."
