Walking tour stop name: Broadway at Barclay Street: The Woolworth Building

Walking tour stop description: At this stop the narrator, Matthew Modine, notes the significance of this location to the history of American media. As Juliana has documented in her project, "Architecture of Media," the headquarters of many of New York City's leading newspapers and media companies were at one point concentrated at this spot at the South tip of City Hall Park.

This stop is also directly beneath the ornate Woolworth Building, which has made many cinematic appearances; among the most recent, its rooftop spires were the setting for a fight between a sword-wielding princess (Amy Adams) and a giant dragon voiced by Susan Sarandon in this clip from Enchanted (2007).
