Additional Information: At a panel on the future of independent bookstores at the CUNY Graduate Center, writer Jonathan Ames talked about his relationship with BookCourt and how he became both a customer and friend of the store from living in the neighborhood. He discussed how the store, especially under Zack Zook's tenure as events manager, has allowed him to deviate from traditional author readings and instead stage performances like this knife throwing, which was followed by a signing. Ames later wrote a scene for his television show Bored to Death recreating this event and had HBO rent out BookCourt for a day to film it there.
