Walking tour stop description: Built in 1887, the Eldridge Street Synagogue held many musical events in late 1800s in hopes of attracting new members to fill the very large new structure. When it was declared a National Landmark in 1996 a celebratory event featured klezmer, cantors and Gershwin ballads, amongst others. It continues to host musical performances.
