MADE IN NEW YORK: A HISTORICAL AND SPATIAL SURVEY OF WOODY ALLEN FILM LOCATIONS
DESCRIPTION
New York City, since the early 1900's has had a tremendous influence on the film industry. Over the years countless filmmakers have used the city as an influential backdrop in their films.
No one has explored New York in their work more then Woody Allen. In the last fifty years Allen has directed 22 feature films where production was based in the city, and in each film the metropolis has become an intricate character in all of his stories.
Recently, many independent filmmakers, including Allen, have had to move their film production to other cities because of New York's permit, production, and insurance costs . This map showcases numerous Manhattan landmarks that have been featured in Woody Allen films, and numerous others to provide a spatial context on the importance of film presence to remain in the city.
