YFF Buildings As Equipment Centers

Why do youth from so far away, come through the YFF buildings to make films?  It seems like many of the filmmakers interviewed for this project had the same response..."Free Equipment."  The collaborative element of making a film was integral to the process, but had less to do with the initial interest then the actual resurces that YFF provided.  Rodger and other program leaders did not follow the youth around unless they explicity asked for help.  The equipment was handed out, along with the addresses to companies offering free film development.

Working to 'make sense' of the space between youth homes and program buildings leads only, simply, to the above.*

*It should be noted, however, that youth from the Lower East Side and East Harlem used the spaces as community centers, often filming their work directly at the centers themselves.
