improve filtering of records when choosing record reference

when a user is creating a record that has a reference to another record, the dropdown for choosing that other record is impossibly long and with uninformative information.

the list should have better info about the records and be filtered somehow. ie, maybe by project (probably with possibility to expand beyond just project somehow)
